Mmmm...corn

I love corn. I love summer when corn on the cob is plentiful and sweet. Unfortunately, Ryan does not share my love. He likes it, but that's it. When we first got married, he thought we ate corn excessively. Twice a week excessive? Not in my book. We have compromised some, but really he just smiles now when we have corn and doesn't say much. But now that we have kids, my side is winning the corn frequency debate. Marielle and Jenna love corn. The love comes early and stays. And since the girls shop with me we really can't get out of the grocery store without grabbing a few ears. Especially when they are on sale.
(Marielle's last birthday, corn was on the birthday request menu!)

Serious Opinions

Shula came for a visit last week and had a GREAT idea. She brought an outfit for Jenna, but not Marielle, because she thought Marielle would like to pick out her own dress. I was looking forward to our little shopping trip and envisioned Marielle happily choosing an outfit in the Naartije store since everything there is fancy -- ruffles and frills required on every layer. Ryan was a little worried about our trip since we were in a bit of a time crunch squeezing in dinner and shopping before mutual. I assured him it would be quick since Marielle would be thrilled with the first outfit she found. Boy, was I wrong! Turns out my little Marielle has some serious opinions on what she wears when presented with an entire store full of choices. First outfit she tried on she hated. And the next, and the next, and the next. The dressing room was littered with skirts, leggings, tops, dresses, sweaters, and on. Then I came in with a purple toole skirt. Never you mind it was an size 8. ( Time was running out and I was getting desperate!) Marielle loved it. She had to have it. You see, it twirls well. And apparently being 3 sizes too big enhances the twirl. No amount of prodding could move her away from the skirt. Good thing Grandma's generally have more patience for whims of nearly four year olds, because she got it. So here are the happy results.

Pretty darn cute huh? But I am seriously scared for future shopping trips with this girl.

Coffee or Tea?

Like most little girls, Marielle has a tea set. She plays with it often and shares her "tea" with me. But the other day she offered me a cup of coffee. It surprised me and I told her, "Marielle we don't drink coffee." This of course was followed by lots more questions and me fumbling through an explanation of the Word of Wisdom and trying to reconcile all the imaginary tea we've been drinking. In the end, I think we were both confused.
What would you have done: drank the coffee or shunned the tea from the start?
