Back Posting

Catching a picture of three toddlers smiling can be difficult. Infact, for these three toddlers, you might even say impossible. We took at least ten pictures, and this was the best one. Well, Jenn or Krissy might not agree with me, but I thought it turned out great. Can you tell which one is my kid? :)

Making Sense out of Dollars

Last night we went out to eat with Ryan on his way out of town for a business trip. As we were waiting for Ryan to come out of the restroom, Marielle spotted my wallet and started taking coins out. I don't mind her playing with my wallet when we are at home, but I try to discourage her from spreading my credit cards and currency on the floor when we are in public. So I took the wallet away from her and she starting crying, "I need by money! I need money!" By this time Ryan had joined us and says, "Something tells me we are going to be hearing that phrase a lot for the next 30 years. Probably with the same whine to it too."

Then this morning, Marielle found a few coins on my vanity as we were getting ready for the day. She was holding exactly six cents in her hand and she says to me proudly, "Mom, I have 50 dollars." I didn't even know she knew the number 50! What a girl!

Marielle-icasso

Marielle drew her first face yesterday, complete with eyes, nose and mouth all on the same side of the head.
Her newfound interest in countenance is directly related to the sleeper hit of Christmas. Santa delivered this Mr. Potatohead Christmas morning, and Marielle plays with it everyday, several times a day.

At first, she was a stickler for getting all the right pieces on each family member (Mom, Dad and two babies). But lately she's gotten into making "sil" (i.e., silly) faces with multiples sets of eyes, lips and ears all in the wrong places.

Guess Who Got Dressed First Today?

Marielle won me over this morning by requesting she wear the same outfit I had on. She told me she wanted her black shirt and blue pants. I was thinking, "does she have any blue pants?" when I realized I was wearing jeans and the like mother like daughter image hit me. I'll admit, I was happy to comply. As they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery. Be sure to notice our matching Vans, (thanks Jenn!) which was part of an awesome Christmas gift this year.

Gospel Lessons

Marielle & Mom were reading our Book of Mormon Stories book the other day, looking for pictures of Jesus. While looking at this picture,

Marielle stated, "I like Jesus." After another moment of reflection she added, " I no like Santa." This year's picture doesn't quite capture our daughter's dis-like/trust of the jolly ol' elf. Nanoseconds after the flash went off, Marielle's look of confusion was replaced with earsplitting wails to match those of her visibly traumatized friend Annalee.

As with all the kids we babysit, we provided Annalee (at no extra charge) with an agonizing experience to help her realize just how good she has it with their own parents.

The Lion and the Lamb

I remember an art project I made in first grade that had picture of a lion and a lamb with cotton balls and the title, "March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a lamb." My teacher was a little worried about first graders screwing up the spelling with permanent marker so we came to her desk one by one to write the words with her careful directions and surveillance. I was extremely nervous when my time came to take the marker. When I was almost finished my confidence overcame me and I reversed the vowels in the word "goes", creating geos. AHHH! Mrs Hadad was very annoyed and made me fix it as best we could by making the o really thick so it almost covered the wrong e and squeezing an e before the s. The fact that I remember this scenario so well shows how traumatized I really was.

So while Izzie's towel is actually a kitty and not a lamb, pretending it's a lamb brings a whole lot more fun to my blog post of the day. :)

Aunt Al-guh

Although the weather was chilly in El Paso, we still got in some park time. Too bad I didn't get any good pics of the three little ones together. Still, this one of Ally and Marielle is pretty cute. Looks like it could make a great Facebook profile pic. (For Ally, not Marielle.) All in favor, comment "aye."

Hanging Out with Ju-ah

We had a fun little visit with Julie and her boyfriend Chris in Austin on our way to El Paso. Marielle warmed up to Julie quick calling her "my Ju-ah." Although it was just an afternoon, it was great to see our newest Texas relative! :)

This Blog is Nothin' to Crow About

Lately I've been having bloggers block. I think it's because I never feel like I have enough time to do a decent entry. So I am changin' my ways. I am going to do short and sweet posts and try to do them a little more often. After all we can't let our readership of 6 dwindle to 3!
